Job summary

Carbon, Inc. is seeking a Staff Application Engineer in Sunnyvale, CA to lead cross-functional programs from concept to production readiness.

You will own outcomes across projects, influence stakeholders, and shape tooling, workflows, and technical strategy within Carbon’s Application Engineering practice. You will guide customers through design, manufacturing tradeoffs, and post-processing while collaborating with software, materials, and hardware teams.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in product development or product design, with a track record of shipping from concept to production.
• Strong proficiency with CAD/CAE software (SolidWorks, NX, CATIA) and lattice design tooling.

Responsibilities

• Educate and influence customers on Design for DLS and manufacturability, including printer operation, materials, software, and post-processing; guide tradeoffs meeting production requirements.
• Lead development and optimization of applications across the full lifecycle (design, file prep, printing, post-processing, finishing, validation).
• Drive technical strategy for assigned applications, delivering defensible customer benefits vs standard manufacturing.
• Evaluate projects for production readiness, cost viability, and scalability, and provide recommendations to sales and leadership.
• Serve as technical liaison between go‑to‑market needs and Carbon’s software, product, materials, and hardware teams.
• Use hypothesis-driven approaches to define test methods and iterate based on feedback.
• Mentor and coach other Application Engineers and contribute to templates, checklists, and workflows.
