Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Senior DCS Engineer in Ohio to lead ABB AC450 DCS projects from design through commissioning. You will own AMPLE-based control applications and serve as the main technical contact for customers during project execution.

The role requires strong experience with ABB DCS systems, migration methodologies, and the MasterView environment, plus a track record in the Pulp & Paper industry. Hybrid or on-site work in Westerville area preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Control Automation or related field.
• Hands-on with ABB AC450 DCS Controllers and migration methodologies.
• Proficiency in AMPLE programming and ABB DCS applications.
• Experience with MasterView and ABB operator interfaces.
• Ability to read and develop engineering docs (P&IDs, narratives, FDS, diagrams).
• 5+ years in DCS application engineering (design, config, testing, commissioning, support).
• Pulp & Paper knowledge and ABB Pulp & Paper Library preferred.

Job description

• Serve as a design authority for an engineering discipline


• Complete assignments on multiple moderate-size projects or portions of major projects cost-effectively


• Ensure assignments comply with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards


• Lead and execute ABB DCS projects, including AC450 migration programs, with technical ownership from design through commissioning and startup


• Design, configure, test, and commission applications using ABB AC450 DCS Controllers


• Develop and maintain AMPLE-based control applications


• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers throughout project execution


• Develop engineering work plans, schedules, and cost estimates


• Support proposal and tendering activities with technical expertise for DCS migration and automation projects


• Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical support for installed systems


• Identify opportunities to improve system performance and reliability


• Mentor and coach junior engineers, sharing best practices and lessons learned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field


• Hands-on experience with ABB AC450 DCS Controllers, including understanding of legacy ABB control system architectures and migration methodologies


• Proficiency in AMPLE programming, with experience developing, modifying, and troubleshooting ABB DCS applications


• Experience working with MasterView and related ABB operator interface environments


• Ability to read, interpret, and develop engineering documentation, including P&IDs, control narratives, functional design specifications, and system architecture diagrams


• Proven experience supporting automation and control systems within industrial process environments


• 5+ years of experience in DCS application engineering, including system design, configuration, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and support


• Demonstrated experience in the Pulp & Paper industry, including process knowledge and control applications is preferred


• Experience with the ABB Pulp & Paper Library is preferred
