Job summary

Universal Health Services, Atlantic Region CBO, seeks an Appeals Team Lead to coordinate the work of Appeals Specialists and Coding Specialists. This role reports to the Appeals Manager and focuses on denial resolution, staff training, and performance feedback.

You will build relationships with major payer representatives and internal clinical teams, review denials, and generate regular reports to guide improvement. Strong communication and detail orientation are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and 1-3 years appeals experience preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Customer focused with attention to detail and strong data entry and communication.
• Familiarity with appeals and 1-3 years healthcare business office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a support person for the Appeals Department by answering questions and addressing concerns.
• Coordinates training of new hires and provides in‑services as appropriate
• Works with Appeals Manager to resolve issues associated with denials between other internal departments of the CBO or external departments of the facilities served
• Works in conjunction with Appeals Manager to review open and closed denials to monitor trends at individual facility level to assist with denial avoidance, by providing feedback.
• Assists Appeals Manager in providing regular feedback to staff related to performance using reviews of productivity and quality of work.
• Establish and build relationships with major payer representatives at third party insurance companies, and key contacts within Case Management departments within each facility.
• Review and/or create daily, weekly and monthly reports as assigned.
• Assist department manager and assistant director with developing individual and group departmental goals and objectives
• Other duties as assigned.
