Job summary

Ensono seeks a Lead Application Modernization Consultant to guide agile delivery teams in migrating and modernizing complex applications for US clients. You will stay hands-on in architecture and development while driving measurable business outcomes.

You will strengthen standards, mentor engineers, and apply AI-assisted approaches to accelerate legacy analysis and improve quality and delivery cycles. Remote work is supported across the United States.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive software engineering or related experience, including 3+ years in application modernization or technical delivery leadership.
• Experience modernizing large-scale, high-availability applications, including cloud-native and microservices architectures.
• Hands-on proficiency in at least one language such as Java, .NET, or Python with legacy code analysis.
• Experience with legacy estate assessment, inventories, and modernization strategies (rehost/refactor/re-platform/retire/retain/replace).
• Experience leading solution design, creating ADRs, acceptance criteria, and executable delivery plans.
• Strong design of distributed systems on Azure/AWS/GCP with non-functional requirements.
• Experience establishing engineering standards, automation, testing, documentation, and reusable patterns.
• Experience managing risks across the software lifecycle.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools under engineering oversight.
• Experience mentoring engineers and delivering technical leadership.
• Strong client-facing communication and alignment on desired outcomes.
• Ownership of technical outcomes with documentation and reusable assets.

Responsibilities

• Lead an agile delivery team or significant workstream, ensuring measurable business outcomes.
• Identify and mitigate technical and delivery risks across legacy, migration, and new technologies.
• Remain hands-on in architecture, design, and development while guiding multiple work packages.
• Drive modernization by assessing legacy code, building inventories, and recommending dispositions (rehost/refactor/re-platform/retire/retain/replace).
• Develop target-state designs and clear paths from legacy to modernized solutions.
• Lead discovery with clients to define problems, outcomes, success criteria, and priorities.
• Document requirements, architectural intent, ADRs, acceptance criteria, and delivery plans.
• Promote modern developer experience with responsible AI-assisted tooling.
• Maintain engineering judgment and transparent decisions in architecture and delivery.
• Provide technical leadership within Connected Services and ensure engineering quality.
