Job summary

Ensono is seeking a Lead Application Modernization Consultant to guide agile delivery and own technical outcomes across client programs. You’ll stay hands-on in architecture, design, and development while measuring business impact and advancing modernization patterns.

You’ll mentor engineers, champion disciplined ADRs and acceptance criteria, and promote effective use of AI-assisted tools to accelerate legacy analysis, improve quality, and accelerate delivery within a collaborative,

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive software engineering, including 3+ years in modernization, cloud architecture, or delivery leadership.
• Experience leading modernization of large-scale, high-availability apps including cloud-native/microservices.
• Hands-on in Java, .NET, or Python with legacy code analysis.
• Experience assessing legacy estates and recommending modernization strategies (rehost, refactor, re-platform, retire, retain, replace).
• Experience leading solution design, ADRs, acceptance criteria, and delivery plans.
• Strong experience designing distributed systems on Azure, AWS, or GCP with non-functional considerations.
• Experience establishing engineering standards, automation, testing, and documentation practices.
• Experience identifying and managing technical, architectural, and delivery risks across SDLC.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools while maintaining oversight.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and mentorship to engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead an agile delivery team or significant workstream within a larger program, owning technical outcomes and developer experience.
• Own technical and delivery risk, identifying and mitigating risks related to legacy dependencies and new technologies.
• Remain hands-on in architecture, design, and development while ensuring alignment with architectures and standards.
• Drive modernization by assessing legacy codebases and recommending dispositions (rehost, refactor, re-platform, retire, retain, replace).
• Develop assessments and target-state designs showing a clear path from legacy to modern solutions.
• Lead discovery and planning with clients to define problems, outcomes, success criteria, constraints, and priorities.
• Champion spec-driven development with ADRs, acceptance criteria, and architecture intent.
• Promote a modern developer experience and responsible use of AI-assisted tools.
• Maintain engineering judgment and transparent, well-documented decisions.
• Provide technical leadership within Connected Services and set expectations for quality and delivery.
