Job summary

Heidrick & Struggles International, Inc. is seeking a Senior Manager, API & Middleware Engineering in the Chicago area to lead API and middleware initiatives across the enterprise.

The role focuses on platform ownership, governance, and delivering reusable connectivity patterns for secure integrations with data platforms, APIs, and AI-enabled workflows. You will manage a blended team of internal staff, contractors, and vendors while collaborating with Architecture, Security, Data, AI,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in enterprise integration or middleware.
• Strong experience designing, building, and supporting enterprise integrations using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.

Responsibilities

• Lead MuleSoft engineering delivery and production troubleshooting across enterprise integration initiatives.
• Own middleware platform operating model, delivery governance, engineering standards, and backlog management.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership and serve as escalation point for design reviews and integration projects.
• Coordinate with Product Owners, Enterprise Architecture, Security, Data, AI, Infrastructure, QA, DevOps and application teams to align priorities and delivery.
• Lead blended teams of employees, contractors and vendors; oversee coaching, performance, and vendor coordination.
• Define and evolve reusable integration patterns, API standards, and service-level expectations for scalability and reliability.
