Job summary

City of Waco seeks a compassionate and dependable professional to provide care for animals at the City Animal Shelter and deliver outstanding customer service, while supporting daily shelter operations. Under basic supervision, the role involves animal care, grooming, feeding, monitoring health, assisting customers, maintaining files, and assisting with reports.

A valid Texas driver’s license, a high school diploma or GED, and 1 year of customer service or animal care are required; Euthanasia

Qualifications

• Requires valid Texas Driver's License.
• Requires H.S. Diploma or GED equivalence.
• Requires 1 year of customer service and/or animal care.
• Euthanasia Technician certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services is required within 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Cleans Animal Shelter daily, including feeding, watering, and grooming animals; monitors animals for illness and disease and provides medications.
• Provides customer assistance; maintains and updates files and assists with reports and computer entry.
• Euthanizes animals and processes animal carcasses.
• May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.
• Operates a City vehicle to retrieve warehouse items and transport pets to adoption events or other assigned locations.
• Impounds owner surrenders, strays, and seized animals, entering their information into the shelter management software.
