Job summary

The City of Grand Prairie is seeking a dedicated Shelter Operations Supervisor to manage the animal shelter, ensure humane care, and enforce city ordinances. You will lead staff, coordinate adoptions, handle inquiries, and supervise budget and records.

Responsibilities include directing daily shelter activities, ensuring compliance with laws, and conducting training and evaluations while supporting volunteers and the community.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Two years experience in animal services or related.
• Certifications: Basic Animal Control, Advanced Animal Control, Euthanasia Technician, Rabies Control, Texas Class C Driver's License

Responsibilities

• Oversee shelter operations and cleanliness; direct personnel; answer questions; assist customers with adoption, RTO, and drop-off processes; handle complaints.
• Maintain awareness and compliance with ordinances, public health codes, and state laws.
• Communicate with medical staff; supervise enrichment and inventory of food, supplies, and medical items.
• Recruit, hire, supervise, promote, train, discipline, and evaluate shelter employees; provide ongoing feedback.
• Develop SOPs; assist with budget; maintain records; supervise volunteers.
• Assess animals for humane euthanasia when necessary.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to provide for the health and safety of the citizens of Grand Prairie through the enforcement of City ordinances regarding animals. This is accomplished by managing the day-to-day operation of the animal shelter; investigating animal cruelty cases; responding to citizen calls for services regarding animal services; supervising employees; and completing paperwork. Other duties include providing customer service to citizens.

• Provides raving fans service to citizens by overseeing shelter operations and cleanliness; directing personnel; answering questions; assisting customers with the adoption, RTO, and drop-off process; and handling complaints. Maintains awareness and compliance with applicable ordinances, public health codes, and state laws.

• Conducts regularly scheduled rounds to set compassionate plan for animals within days of impoundment. Communicates regularly with medical staff to support health of onsite population and reduce spread of disease. Oversees onsite enrichment efforts and evaluations.
• Oversees onsite inventory of food, supplies, and general medical supplies.
• Participates in/generates educational programs by researching and developing materials; and conducting presentations at various schools and conferences.
• Responsible for the recruiting, hiring, supervision, promotion, training, discipline, and termination of shelter employees, providing regular, on-going feedback and timely evaluations.
• Completes other duties by developing standard operating procedures; assisting with the budget; maintaining records; and overseeing volunteers when needed.
• Assesses animals for humane euthanasia when necessary.
• Supervises employees by assigning work duties; monitoring work tasks; providing council to employees as needed; and completing performance evaluations.

• Education: Work requires a high school diploma or G.E.D.

• Experience: Two years experience in animal services or related.
• Licenses: Valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
• Certifications Required:Basic Animal Control Certification, Advanced Animal Control Certification, Euthanasia Technician Certification, Rabies Control Certification, Valid Texas Class C Driver's License
