City of San Antonio is seeking a supervisory Animal Care Officer to oversee field personnel, ensure policy adherence, and coordinate investigations and training. The role requires leadership, field mentorship, and the ability to respond to animal control emergencies, with a schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.

This on-site position reports to Animal Care Services at 4710 State Highway 151, San Antonio, TX.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two years of animal control or animal handling experience.
• Valid Class C Texas Driver's License.
• Must possess the Texas Department of State Health Services Basic Animal Control Officer Certification or obtain within six months of employment; continuing Education Credits of 30 hours every 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Act as Field Training Officer for new or remediating Officers through documentation of readiness and remediation evaluations.
• Execute instruction during the Animal Care Officer Academy for training and retraining of field personnel.
• Conduct process compliance inspections for equipment and personnel to ensure readiness and professional appearance.
• Capable of acting as Animal Care Services Site Commander for inter-agency warrants, seizures, and coordinated operations.
• Operate in an investigative capacity including warrants, SBI case files, and court-related activities.
• Safely and humanely captures and transports animals including those that are sick, injured, or potentially dangerous.
• Respond to calls for animal assistance from law enforcement and to emergencies and animal law violations.
• Investigate reports of bites and dangerous or vicious animals; document field notes and daily logs.
• Counsel and educate citizens on responsible animal ownership and ordinances; issue citations and testify in court.
• Enter animal information into the software management system; maintain equipment in good working order.
