Job summary

Ground News is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to lead the Android app strategy and implementation. You will shape architecture, improve performance, and run experiments to grow user engagement and subscription revenue.

You will work with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, MVVM, Firebase, and RevenueCat, partnering with Growth, Marketing, Sponsorships, and CRO to ship experiments and optimizations. Remote-friendly with occasional travel to our Kitchener HQ.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of growing mobile user base and revenue.
• Hands-on production mobile apps in Kotlin with modern architectures.
• Experience with CRO tooling and collaboration with Growth, Marketing, and CRO functions.
• Experience shipping changes safely to production with feature flags and instrumentation.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and architectural decisions for mobile.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to Kitchener HQ, Ontario.

Responsibilities

• Share the technical strategy for Ground News' mobile properties and growth through Android.
• Build and ship high-quality Kotlin experiences across conversion surfaces.
• Collaborate with CRO, Growth, Marketing, and Sponsorships to translate hypotheses into experiments.
• Own and evolve the mobile tech stack, including guardrails for safe, performant delivery.
• Mature mobile experimentation programs with clear measurement and fast iteration.
• Set bar for mobile performance, accessibility, analytics, and Core Mobile Vitals.
• Act as senior voice in code review and architecture, speeding PRs and raising quality.
• Manage safe rollouts of the Android app with feature flags and monitoring.
• Maintain end-to-end funnel instrumentation for trusted analytics.
