IDEAYA Biosciences in South San Francisco is seeking a Principal Research Scientist, Analytical Chemistry to lead analytical efforts across our drug discovery portfolio. The role requires leadership of junior staff, management of purification methods (HPLC/SFC), and coordination with cross-functional teams.

The successful candidate will drive method development, validation, and CRO oversight while integrating new analytical technologies to advance pipeline goals on site five days a week.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in analytical chemistry or related discipline with minimum of 5 years of drug discovery experience.
• Strong expertise in small molecule purification (HPLC and SFC) and analytical method development/validation.
• Experience with CRO management and structural elucidation techniques preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee small molecule analytical chemistry efforts across the IDEAYA discovery portfolio.
• Manage and execute compound purifications, chiral SFC separations, structural elucidations, and biophysical property determinations.
• Lead junior analytical chemists and ensure high quality, rigorous work.
• Ensure methods are sound and fit-for-purpose; troubleshoot and guide across discovery programs.
• Manage lab equipment installation and maintenance; oversee external CROs.
• Collaborate with other functions to align analytical strategy and goals.
• Assist in hiring to build a world-class analytical department.
• Stay updated with new techniques and bring capabilities online as needed.
