Job summary

Environmental Defense Fund, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Analyst for Clean Electricity & Carbon Markets to support EDF’s western U.S.

engagement and broader policy campaigns. You will own defined research workstreams, develop initial conclusions, and help manage engagement with policymakers, regulators, and external partners to advance high-priority legislative and regulatory campaigns. Qualifications

  • 4 years of relevant professional experience and a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, economics, public policy, or a related field required. A Master’s degree may substitute for up to two years of experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental policy, climate policy, clean electricity, carbon markets, regulatory policy, or related fields.
  • Strong research and analytical skills to evaluate moderately complex policy or technical information.
  • Ability to synthesize and communicate complex findings clearly for diverse audiences.
  • Proactive with independent judgment and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues, consultants, and policymakers.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to EDF’s clean energy advocacy strategy by identifying policy opportunities and developing analytical recommendations.
  • Represent EDF in external forums with coalition partners, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare policy analysis, briefing materials, and rapid-response information for audiences.
  • Lead in-house research projects, including policy analysis of proposed regulations and legislation.
  • Evaluate policies across metrics including emissions, economics, health, and equity.
  • Develop conclusions, synthesize findings, and present analyses to inform EDF’s advocacy.
  • Coordinate with external consultants and ensure timely, accurate deliverables for campaigns.
  • Partner with Communications to translate findings into accessible messages for policymakers and public audiences.
  • Support organizational effectiveness goals and promote inclusivity across EDF.
