Job summary

CPS Inc. in Ohio is seeking an Alkyd Coating Chemist with 10+ years in coating formulation to join their team.

This high-visibility role involves client-facing technical support and occasional travel, with competitive benefits. You will develop and improve acrylic and alkyd formulations, support new product lines, troubleshoot coatings, and manage 3–4 active projects while working with the Technical Director and QC Director.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of acrylic and/or alkyd coatings experience.
• Waterborne and solventborne coatings experience.
• Direct-to-metal coatings preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve acrylic and alkyd formulations.
• Develop customer-specific formulations and reformulations.
• Support development of new product lines and technologies.
• Troubleshoot customer coating issues.
• Travel to customer sites for technical support and troubleshooting.
• Research and implement raw-material replacements.
• Troubleshoot production and quality issues.
• Manage approximately 3-4 active projects at a time.
• Conduct bench formulation and laboratory testing.
• Perform hardness and salt-water spray testing.
• Improve and optimize existing product formulations.
• Provide technical assistance to customers and internal teams.
• Work closely with the Technical Director, Senior Chemist, and QC Director.
• Maintain technical documentation and ERP-related information.
• Contribute to best practices and continuous improvement.
