PPG Industries, Inc. is seeking a Customer Support Chemist to apply coatings technology, polymer science, and crosslinking chemistries to support decorative automotive segments.

The role is onsite at the Cleveland, OH facility, reporting to the S&T Customer Support Manager, with responsibilities spanning formulation, testing, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate has a 5+ year background in coatings or related fields, strong problem-solving abilities, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Science Degree in Chemistry or related Engineering or Science field with 5+ years of related experience.
• Work experience in coatings, paints, or similar industries is strongly preferred.
• Strong communication and listening skills are expected.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all safety protocols and promote a broad safety culture in a laboratory environment.
• Develop formulation, application, and testing for all layers in the decorative parts market segment.
• Collaborate with manager to set SMART goals and milestones with bold timelines.
• Coordinate with commercial and field organizations for ongoing projects.
• Support product and process troubleshooting using root cause analysis and BPI tools; travel to customer sites as needed.
• Maintain results via written/verbal summaries, coatings reports, and project updates.
• Work with regional labs and R&D on new/existing formulations; simulate customer line conditions to improve launches.
• Assist with FLC and Secure Launch processes (formula filing, conversion planning, PDCA).
