Job summary

KAYAK, part of Booking Holdings, seeks a Java Senior Software Engineer to implement new features and maintain AI-enabled travel search capabilities. You will help millions of users find hotels and plan trips, with a focus on reliability and performance.

The role requires commuting to the Concord, MA office three times weekly and collaborating across product, design, and engineering teams. You will contribute to AI-powered features such as smart filters, hotel review summaries, and conversational

Qualifications

• Experience building production software
• Proficiency in Java or another relevant language
• Familiarity with APIs, data structures and software design principles
• Experience testing software and investigating defects or production issues
• Ability to explain technical decisions in writing and in conversation
• Ability to take ownership of assigned work while seeking input when needed
• Experience contributing to projects from design to maintenance
• Equivalent practical experience can replace a degree

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain production software for travel-search and planning experiences.
• Build and evolve APIs and services supporting AI-assisted search and travel planning.
• Investigate problems, weigh trade-offs and improve reliability and performance.
• Write automated tests across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions for clarity and correctness.
• Collaborate with engineers, PMs and designers to deliver usable user experiences.
• Contribute to features like ASK AI, smart filters, AI-generated summaries, Explore and related searches.
• Help make AI-assisted features dependable, transparent and useful to travelers.
• Learn unfamiliar systems and share knowledge via docs, pairing and discussions.
• Monitor production behavior with debugging, observability and root-cause analysis.
• Contribute to evolution of development tools and engineering practices
