Job summary

ZipStaff is seeking a Senior AI Software Engineer to build production Java services with AI-assisted engineering for a healthcare analytics environment.

This backend role focuses on Spring Boot APIs, microservices, AI tooling reviews, and cloud deployments across OpenShift, Kubernetes, or AWS, with remote US work.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend or enterprise software engineering.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent.
• Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, and production delivery.
• Daily use of Claude, Copilot, or similar AI coding tool with review.
• SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL or Oracle) data modeling and tuning.
• Event-driven or distributed systems, CI/CD, and containers/cloud (OpenShift, Kubernetes, AWS).
• Exposure to workflow platforms: Temporal, Camunda, Flowable, jBPM, or Drools.
• Agile delivery (SAFe preferred).
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Senior AI Software Engineer – Java

Location: Remote (U.S.)

Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099)

About the Opportunity

ZipStaff is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build production Java services with AI-assisted engineering at a healthcare analytics and payment-integrity organization.

You will ship Spring Boot APIs and microservices, review AI-generated code, and integrate with workflow orchestration. This is a backend seat that uses Claude or Copilot every day — not a prompt-engineer role and not a Java role with no AI workflow.

What You’ll Do:

• Build and enhance production Java / Spring Boot services, APIs, and microservices.
• Use Claude, Copilot, or a similar tool for coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.
• Review AI-generated code for correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Integrate services with workflow orchestration (Temporal, Camunda, or equivalent) for routing and decision support.
• Deliver features with the tech lead and data teams, and take production issues.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years professional backend or enterprise software engineering.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, and integration patterns, shipped to production.
• Daily use of Claude, Copilot, or a similar AI coding tool, with review of the output.
• SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL or Oracle), including data modeling and tuning.
• Event-driven or distributed systems, CI/CD, and containers or cloud (OpenShift, Kubernetes, or AWS).
• Exposure to a workflow platform: Temporal, Camunda, Flowable, jBPM, or Drools.
• Agile delivery (SAFe preferred).
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Workflow-driven or decision-automation solutions, especially Temporal.
• Governance practices for AI-assisted development.
• Shared platforms, integration frameworks, or internal developer tools.
• AWS, Azure, or OCI, and Docker.
• Healthcare IT or another regulated environment.
