Job summary

ZipStaff is seeking an AI-Native Staff Engineer for a remote US contract to lead a focused AI-native delivery team in a healthcare analytics environment. You will produce production-grade code using Claude or Copilot, review AI output, and guide a small team end-to-end.

You’ll own APIs, backend and full-stack components, while ensuring security and performance. Strong Java work, oracle/postgreSQL design skills, and hands-on leadership are required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with hands-on production development.
• Daily use of AI-native tooling (Claude, GitHub Copilot) to generate, review, and refine production code.
• Strong Java experience building backend services and APIs.
• Database design experience with Oracle and/or PostgreSQL.
• Ability to review and harden AI-generated code for security, performance, and maintainability.
• Experience spanning backend services, frontend components, APIs, workflows, and test code.
• Comfort guiding a small team while remaining hands-on.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Build and enhance production-grade software using AI-assisted development workflows.
• Translate product and technical requirements into working, maintainable software.
• Use AI tools to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, refactoring, and documentation.
• Review, validate, and refine AI-generated code for correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Design and implement clean APIs, services, and application components.
• Contribute to scalable backend systems and full-stack solutions.
• Orchestrate AI tools across code generation, test creation, debugging, and documentation.
• Collaborate with the AI-Native Tech Architect and the small AI-native team to deliver features end-to-end.
• Guide a small team and communicate technical tradeoffs clearly.
