Job summary

Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, OH is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to design and implement AI-enabled software solutions within an agile squad. You will drive architecture across multiple services, mentor developers, and help establish guardrails for responsible AI development.

You will work on enterprise-grade systems, integrate APIs, and ensure security, reliability, and scalability while collaborating with architecture, security, risk, data, and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or comparable with 8+ years of experience.

• Prior experience with knowledge of Git and GitHub.

• Understanding of responsible AI principles, including model risk, privacy, security, human oversight, and governance considerations.
• Ability to evaluate tradeoffs across software architecture, AI capabilities, operational support, and enterprise controls.
• Experience defining technical standards, reusable patterns, and engineering best practices across teams.
• Ability to work across product, engineering, architecture, security, and risk stakeholders to deliver scalable enterprise solutions.

• Designs and implements technology and software solutions as a member of an agile squad.
• Designs and implements new features while improving quality of technical products and applications.
• Creates and executes long-term vision of technical products and applications.
• Acts as a technical expert and developer on an agile squad.
• Drives the architecture of solutions across multiple services and applications.
• Develops software meeting code quality standards and metrics.
• Practices test-driven development.
• Mentors developers, enforces standards, reviews code, shares knowledge.
• Achieves operational excellence by automating processes and writing maintainable, testable code.
• Maintains partnerships with operations and engineering teams to drive service improvement.
• Remains current on IT trends and industry practices.
• Assists with problem resolution for end users and customers.
• Designs, builds, and supports AI-enabled software capabilities and agentic workflows.
• Defines orchestration patterns for AI agents, tools, APIs, prompts, memory, and workflow execution.
• Partners with architecture, security, risk, data, and engineering teams to establish guardrails for responsible AI development.
• Evaluates and integrates large language models and AI platforms into enterprise workflows.
• Builds reusable frameworks, services, and patterns for safe AI adoption.
• Establishes observability, logging, testing, and performance monitoring for AI-powered solutions.
• Ensures AI solutions meet security, privacy, resiliency, explainability, and oversight requirements.
• Contributes to standards and best practices for AI engineering and tooling.
• Identifies opportunities to improve developer productivity and customer outcomes through AI tooling.
• Mentors engineers on modern software engineering and AI practices.
• Other duties as assigned.
