Job summary

Actively AI is seeking a Senior / Staff Software Engineer - Search & Retrieval to build and scale the systems that power Actively’s AI agents to find, rank, and reason over data. You’ll design and build the search, retrieval, and relevance infrastructure powering every agent, from enrichment to ranking, across diverse data sources.

The role emphasizes freshness, precision, and end-to-end retrieval quality, with collaboration across Intelligence, Assistant, and Orchestration teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating retrieval systems in production.
• Experience tuning relevance and reranking in production.
• Experience with near real-time indexing and incremental updates.
• Skills with hybrid semantic/keyword retrieval.
• Strong evaluation practices using IR metrics.

Responsibilities

• Build the retrieval layer agents depend on and scale the search infrastructure.
• Turn raw, unstructured data into retrievable context via enrichment and entity extraction.
• Own the Search for Agents Architecture and index/configuration decisions.
• Build and iterate on ranking systems to maximize relevance.
• Develop shared retrieval primitives consumed by multiple teams.
• Own retrieval quality end-to-end with evaluation infra and regressions.
