Job summary

Security and Technology seeks a Senior Advisor to lead a time-bound effort on AI-induced incidents, focusing on guardrails, governance, and practical risk reduction. This is a 1099 contractor role with ~20 hours per week for 12 months, remote to fit Eastern Time hours, with contract value up to $100,000.

The contractor will collaborate with researchers, AI developers, and government stakeholders, translating research into actionable guidance and contributing to IST publications and policy

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in CS, ML, AI safety or related field.
• At least five years of red teaming, threat modeling, or AI governance.
• Familiarity with AI loss-of-control research and related safeguards.
• Experience convening multidisciplinary experts and producing research.
• Ability to translate risk into practical guidance for policy/tech audiences.
• Strong writing, analysis, and facilitation skills with stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and technical guidance on advanced AI risks, safeguards, and incident prevention.
• Lead research on emerging AI capabilities, risks, and loss-of-control scenarios.
• Assess approaches for preventing, detecting, and mitigating high-consequence AI incidents.
• Engage with researchers, AI developers, government stakeholders, and experts.
• Translate research into actionable policy and practice recommendations.
• Contribute to IST publications and external engagements on AI risk reduction and preparedness.
