Job summary

Rhoda AI is seeking a Senior MTS AI System Safety Engineer to own the safety assurance lifecycle for the AI-powered humanoid robot platform operating around humans. You will assess the robot’s AI-driven perception, planning, and control behaviors to meet safety standard requirements.

You will lead AI-specific hazard analyses, define safety requirements, develop verification/test strategies, and build evidence packages for formal certification.

Qualifications

• Experience designing AI-based safety systems for complex electromechanical products with safety aspects.
• Hands-on verification & validation of AI safety requirements.
• Knowledge of AI/ML failure modes and mitigation strategies.
• Experience with STPA is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI-specific hazard identification and risk assessment using STPA, FMEA, and scenario-based analysis.
• Assess risks from AI model updates and retraining cycles, including regression of safety-critical behaviors.
• Identify unsafe control actions from AI decision-making across robot modes: autonomous navigation, manipulation, handoff, safe-state operation.
• Establish safety requirements for AI model inputs/outputs, thresholds, uncertainty, and out-of-distribution detection.
• Develop test cases for verification and validation of AI safety.
• Define, engineer, deploy and use safety validation cells with artifacts for safety assessor review.
