Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the Platform Team. You will shape the technical vision for scalable AI tooling and secure gateways, building reusable assets and risk-mitigation tools across the company.

You will lead architecture and implementation for production-grade AI platforms, mentoring engineers and coordinating across teams, with a focus on applied AI at planetary scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering with 7+ years building production platforms
• Experience designing and operating large-scale AI/ML platforms or mission-critical infrastructure

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long‑term technical vision and architecture for the company’s AI platform and security infrastructure
• Lead high‑impact initiatives with full ownership over strategy, design, implementation, and successful company‑wide rollout
• Oversee onboarding of frontier models, massive compute scaling, and optimization of proxy systems for security, efficiency, logging and control
• Lead adoption efforts at scale — establishing standards, mentoring senior engineers, building reusable assets, and driving AI-first workflows
• Proactively identify and execute on opportunities to turn ideas into production software, trained models, and automated systems
• Invent and scale risk‑mitigation capabilities (AI code review, automated PR tools, safety systems)
• Establish best practices and technical direction for lean, secure applied AI across the company
• Serve as a key technical advisor and collaborator with leadership and cross‑functional teams
