Job summary

Built’s Marketplace team seeks a Senior Innovation Engineer to design durable platform primitives, ship MVPs with real customers, and enhance AI-native workflows across our construction and real estate finance platform. This hands-on role emphasizes rapid prototyping, customer feedback, and scalable engineering practices in a fast-moving environment.

You’ll collaborate across teams, mentor junior engineers, and help drive adoption while building robust backend systems and AI-driven solutions on

Qualifications

• Typically 4–7 years of software engineering experience with backend/distributed systems.
• Experience shipping a technical MVP or prototype to customers.
• Experience with or interest in LLMs (Claude, Gemini, OpenAI) and document extraction.
• Exposure to agent harnesses, RAG pipelines, or AI/LLM workflows is a plus.
• Data engineering, ML, or document-processing background handling unstructured documents.
• Curiosity about customer problems and collaboration with product teams.
• Experience in financial services, construction, real estate, payments, lending, or similar B2B domains helpful.

Responsibilities

• Design and build durable platform primitives and microservices for Marketplace.
• Create prototypes and MVPs tested with real customers and iterate weekly.
• Improve adoption and usability of launched products and fix friction.
• Develop AI-native features, including agent harnesses and AI workflows.
• Engage in customer discovery and translate findings for product/engineering leads.
• Mentor newer engineers and collaborate with staff engineers on system design.
• Identify workflow friction and streamline team processes within your projects.
