Job summary

Form Energy is hiring a Staff AI Platform Engineer to build a shared platform for AI-powered tools used across the company. You will design the runtime, knowledge systems, agent infrastructure, and governance tooling, collaborating with data engineers, software engineers, InfoSec, and scientists.

This is a hybrid role with onsite work in Berkeley, CA; Somerville, MA; or Weirton, WV for 3+ days per week. Relocation assistance is available as Form Energy scales its battery manufacturing footprint.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of software or data engineering experience, including building and operating production platforms or services that other engineers depend on.
• Strong production programming in Python and Go, with experience building APIs and backend services.
• Hands-on experience building LLM-powered systems in production, including retrieval-augmented generation and semantic search.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate the internal application platform for AI-generated apps with secure deployment and governance.
• Connect apps to data warehouse and shared Postgres cluster for state management.
• Develop a central knowledge platform over unstructured content and structured data with semantic search.
• Design and deploy shared MCP infrastructure including authentication, authorization, and audit logging.
• Oversee model selection and cost, optimize token usage with context management and caching.
• Create an agent orchestration layer with multi-agent workflows and checkpoints.
• Collaborate with product R&D, manufacturing, and cost teams to automate repeatable work.
• Instrument the platform with tracing and cost attribution; stand up AWS infra via Pulumi/Terraform.
• Champion AI governance and security tooling; guide policy automation and tool approvals.
• Raise engineering standards through RFCs, code reviews, and mentorship.
