Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a Principal AI Engineer II to define and advance AI strategy, architecture, and engineering practices across the enterprise. You will lead secure, scalable AI platforms and guide production-grade AI solutions from ideation to deployment.

You will collaborate with Quality, Regulatory, Legal, and business stakeholders to ensure compliant, trustworthy AI. Strong AWS experience, CI/CD discipline, and experience in regulated environments are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 9 years’ experience, Master’s degree with 8 years, or PhD with 4 years in Computer Science, AI, ML, Data Science, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience designing, deploying, and operating production-scale AI and ML systems.
• Strong experience in AI/platform engineering, including scalable platforms and production-grade AI solutions.
• Experience designing, building, deploying, and supporting solutions using AWS services.
• Strong software and cloud engineering practices including secure design, automated testing, CI/CD, containerization, monitoring, and support.
• Experience in regulated environments, preferably pharma/biotech/healthcare or life sciences.

Responsibilities

• Define and advance AI engineering strategy, architecture, standards, and roadmaps aligned with business objectives.
• Architect and build secure, scalable AI platforms, services, developer tools, and components.
• Lead production-grade AI solutions from ideation through deployment, monitoring, and retirement.
• Integrate AI platforms with AWS services and enterprise data, security, and infrastructure.
• Establish practices for evaluation, testing, release management, observability, and incident response.
• Mentor engineers and promote knowledge sharing across teams.
