Job summary

Verizon Communications in Irving (TX) / Basking Ridge (NJ) seeks a Principal Engineer- AI Platform Architect to lead a comprehensive 5-layer enterprise AI platform with architectural coherence across global units.

You will author ADRs, steer Architecture Review Board submissions, and perform build-vs-buy analyses with multi-year TCO models, while defining standards and interfaces to ensure scalable, secure, and observable platform growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of work experience.
• Six+ years of relevant experience in software or platform architecture and AI/ML systems.
• Experience as a system-level architect with ADRs and reference architectures.
• Experience with distributed systems, Kubernetes at enterprise scale, and multi-cloud (GCP/AWS).
• Experience presenting architecture recommendations to VP/SVP-level leadership.

Responsibilities

• Define and direct the 5-layer architecture stack boundaries and interaction patterns.
• Establish API conventions, security patterns, and observability requirements.
• Lead build-vs-buy analyses and 3-year TCO modeling for platform components.
• Architect security and governance frameworks including RAI guardrails.
• Engage stakeholders and evangelize patterns with executive leadership and cloud partners.
