Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Principal AI Applied Engineer to define the technical strategy, architecture, and long-term vision for AI-enabled products at scale.

You will influence enterprise-wide decisions regarding models, platforms, and governance while staying hands-on in prototyping and software development. The role requires deep expertise in LLMs, cloud-native architectures, and responsible AI practices, with the ability to drive vendor selections and platform investments across multiple

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 12+ years of software engineering experience, incl. distributed systems.
• Proven track record of enterprise-scale AI platforms/products.
• Deep expertise in LLMs, AI platform design, and RAG/orchestration.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term technical strategy for AI-enabled products and platforms.
• Establish architectural patterns and governance for AI systems.
• Lead cross-team architectural reviews and provide technical guidance.
• Mentor engineers through architecture reviews and design feedback.
• Develop and communicate technical roadmaps aligned with business strategy.
• Partner with leadership to translate business priorities into technical strategies.
• Represent engineering in vendor evaluations and governance discussions.
• Ensure AI systems meet privacy, security, and compliance requirements.
