Job summary

GEICO is seeking a Senior Staff Applied Research Scientist to drive the vision and architectural standards for enterprise AI/ML initiatives across insurance operations. You will define technical strategy, mentor engineers and scientists, and partner with senior leadership to align AI investments with measurable business outcomes.

You will architect end-to-end AI/ML systems, oversee model development from concept to production, and ensure scalable, compliant delivery.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years delivering applied AI/ML in production.
• Experience leading end-to-end model development and cross-functional initiatives.
• Expertise in statistical learning, ML, DL, and LLMs; ability to reason from first principles.
• Experience establishing KPI frameworks, experimentation strategies, and causal analysis.
• Research experience with patents, publications, or impactful open-source contributions.
• Ability to mentor and lead senior researchers; high standards for code and reproducibility.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management; influence at executive level.
• Proficient with Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn).
• Capable of crafting long-term strategic visions across teams and domains.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical strategy and long-term roadmap for cross-functional AI/ML programs.
• Architect end-to-end AI/ML systems spanning data, models, deployment, and monitoring.
• Lead the full lifecycle of model development from concept to production.
• Establish KPI frameworks, experimentation strategies, and causal analysis.
• Prototype and translate novel ML techniques into scalable solutions.
• Define company-level research strategy; collaborate with academia and industry.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration with Product, Engineering, Governance, Legal, Security, Operations.
• Mentor Applied researchers and engineers; elevate technical standards.
• Present to senior leadership; align AI investments with business outcomes.
• Champion responsible AI, governance, and risk management in regulated contexts.
• Contribute to GEICO's AI/ML strategy, culture, and execution at enterprise scale.
