Job summary

Vanguard Group in Malvern, PA is seeking an experienced model risk professional to lead independent validation of AI/ML and generative AI models across the enterprise. You will challenge model assumptions, ensure governance, and help evolve Vanguard's model risk framework with data scientists, developers, and business partners.

You will drive validation quality, reinforce standards, and communicate findings to technical and executive audiences while mentoring junior team members in a hybrid work

Qualifications

• PhD in a quantitative discipline; relevant experience.
• 7+ years in model development or validation.
• Experience with AI/ML models using generative AI.
• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Knowledge of CI/CD in model development.
• Familiarity with generative AI architectures and risks.
• Understanding of ML algorithms, NLP, deep learning, and evaluation methods.
• Excellent written communication; ability to explain complex risks to varied audiences.
• Financial services experience is a plus; broad risk-management knowledge preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead independent validation of AI/ML and generative AI models.
• Challenge model assumptions, data, methods, and monitoring.
• Assess compliance with internal AI standards and governance expectations.
• Deliver high-quality validation reports to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Develop and refine validation procedures for consistent risk-based validation.
• Contribute to model risk management policies and procedures across the lifecycle.
• Advise stakeholders on Model Risk policy and standards as needed.
• Identify emerging risks across the AI/ML portfolio and surface to leadership.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to junior team members.
• Participate in special projects as assigned.
