Job summary

UnitedHealth Group in Eden Prairie, MN is seeking a Senior AI/ML Engineer to build and deploy production-grade LLM agents and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines that automate detection, triage, and remediation of platform and application issues. You’ll partner with SRE, InfoSec, and platform teams to deliver scalable, secure AI solutions within existing workflows.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere in the U.S.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering or machine learning engineering experience.
• 4+ years of Python, including agent frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, or CrewAI).
• 2+ years building with LLMs, including prompt engineering and multi-step orchestration.
• 2+ years designing and shipping RAG systems with embeddings, vector DBs, and retrieval evaluation.
• 2+ years integrating third-party APIs and building backend services that run in production.
• 2+ years with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP), containers, and CI/CD.
• 2+ years building LLM evaluation and testing workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions with responsible use of AI.
• Build production LLM agents to automate detection and remediation of issues.
• Design and tune RAG pipelines over runbooks, logs, and docs.
• Implement agent orchestration, including tool calls, planning, and memory management.
• Build infrastructure and guardrails for agents, including human-in-the-loop paths.
