Job summary

UnitedHealthcare is seeking a Sr. AI/ML Engineer with strong full stack development to join the LMIS team supporting E&I modernization and underwriting.

You will design, build, and deploy secure, scalable AI-powered applications combining UI, backend APIs, data integrations, and cloud tech with LLMs and RAG. You'll collaborate with engineering, architecture, product, and underwriting teams to modernize legacy systems, automate workflows, and deliver production-ready solutions that improve

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering, system integration, or ML engineering.
• 3+ years web stack dev with JavaScript/TypeScript, front-end framework, APIs, and databases.
• 3+ years building and deploying robust web APIs (FastAPI, Flask, REST).
• 3+ years Python and ML libraries (NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• 1+ years integrating LLMs or generative AI concepts.
• Experience designing or implementing RAG pipelines with embeddings, vector databases, search, and orchestration.
• Driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions and platforms with responsible AI.
• Design and implement RAG pipelines integrating sources, vector search, embeddings.
• Support agentic AI architectures with MCP capabilities and agent-to-agent communication.
• Leverage enterprise AI tools to streamline workflows and automate tasks.
• Evaluate trends and tools to inform solution design and underwriting modernization.
• Design, develop, and optimize AI/ML capabilities using Python for underwriting needs.
• Build and maintain secure API endpoints for ML models and LLMs.
• Integrate LLMs into production to enhance workflows and efficiency.
• Collaborate with engineers, data engineers, and underwriting stakeholders.
• Ensure high availability, security, and performance via testing and monitoring.
