Job summary

Commence is hiring a Senior AI/ML Engineer to design, build, and productionize scalable ML/AI systems powering clinical and operational data products in healthcare. You will work with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Product teams to transform models into reliable, production-ready solutions within a secure, compliant environment.

Ideal candidates have strong data science and MLOps experience, comfort with complex healthcare datasets (EHRs, claims, FHIR), and can deliver scalable AI

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in machine learning engineering, software engineering, or related roles.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience building production-grade systems.
• Experience deploying and managing machine learning models in production environments.
• Experience with AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, LangChain, Databricks Agent frameworks, or similar.
• Experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as PySpark, Databricks, or AWS EMR.
• Experience with ML lifecycle tools such as MLflow, model registries, and monitoring frameworks.
• Experience building APIs or services (e.g., FastAPI, Flask) for model inference.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, system design, and scalable architecture.
• Experience working with healthcare datasets such as EHRs, claims, FHIR, or HL7.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain end-to-end ML pipelines: ingestion, feature engineering, training, validation, deployment, monitoring.
• Productionize ML/LLM models into scalable APIs, batch, and streaming workflows.
• Develop AI/LLM-driven workflows (document extraction, classification, summarization).
• Implement RAG pipelines, embeddings, and vector retrieval.
• Establish MLOps with CI/CD, versioning, lineage, and automated retraining.
• Integrate AI/ML systems with Databricks and AWS services (S3, Lambda, Bedrock).
• Optimize inference performance, latency, throughput, and cost in production.
• Design monitoring, alerting, and observability for deployed AI systems.
• Collaborate with Data/Software Eng teams to define requirements for scalable AI solutions.
• Ensure HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, FedRAMP Moderate compliance and secure data handling.
• Evaluate emerging AI/ML technologies to improve capabilities.
• Mentor junior engineers on ML engineering and production practices.
