Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Senior AI/ML Engineer to serve as a technical lead for one or more DOL components. You will drive AI solution architecture, data engineering, ML development, and deployment across agency solutions.

You will translate mission needs into actionable AI use cases, implement scalable patterns, and ensure responsible AI practices with secure, compliant cloud deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field; master’s degree preferred.
• 7+ years hands-on experience in AI/ML engineering, software, data, cloud, or enterprise architecture.
• 2+ years delivering generative AI, LLM integration, RAG, model evaluation, or production ML systems.
• Experience architecting secure enterprise or Federal AI solutions.
• Experience with AI model integration, APIs, data pipelines, vector databases, retrieval systems, CI/CD, MLOps.
• Knowledge of FISMA, NIST 800-series guidance, FedRAMP, FIPS, security engineering, privacy, Section 508/WCAG accessibility, and ATO processes.
• Ability to advise both technical and nontechnical stakeholders across AI, data, apps, UX, security, and program-management.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI solution architecture, design, engineering, integration, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and technical quality for DOL agency solutions.
• Translate agency mission needs into actionable AI use cases, prototypes, technical designs, backlogs, acceptance criteria, and production-ready capabilities.
• Design and implement AI/ML systems including deterministic automation, NLP, generative AI, LLMs, RAG, agentic workflows, and MCP-based integrations.
• Define reusable architecture patterns, engineering standards, evaluation methods, secure integration patterns, and MLOps/LLMOps practices across agency teams.
• Lead technical discovery and feasibility assessments including data readiness, privacy/security, and Responsible AI implications.
• Architect secure and scalable AI solutions using Government-approved cloud platforms, services, models, tools, data sources, APIs, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Lead AI evaluation and TEVV activities addressing accuracy, retrieval quality, safety, bias, explainability, and performance.
• Ensure training/validation datasets are separated, versioned, protected, and access-controlled.
• Implement model versioning, experiment tracking, source control, automated testing, monitoring, drift detection, and controlled retraining.
