Job summary

Perplexity AI is seeking a sharp, entrepreneurial litigation attorney to join our small legal team in San Francisco to advance the business, safeguard our products, and revolutionize how people search the internet.

You will manage litigation files and pre-litigation disputes related to our AI answer engine, models, and technologies, working with AI, engineering, and product teams to assess risk, develop strategy, and support disputes across IP, privacy, and regulatory matters.

Qualifications

• JD and active US state bar (California preferred)
• 15+ years of complex commercial litigation experience
• Strong analytical, organizational, collaboration skills, business acumen
• Translate unsettled legal doctrine into concise, business-relevant advice
• Experience with AI or emerging technology litigation is a plus

Responsibilities

• Lead litigation matters from strategy through appeal, aligning with business goals.
• Advise across IP, privacy, commercial and regulatory disputes in multiple contexts.
• Assess threats and propose resolutions with minimal disruption to the business.
• Manage outside counsel, budgets and performance for cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with AI, product and engineering teams to identify risk and provide guidance.
• Support regulatory inquiries and investigations involving products and services.
• Develop scalable litigation processes and discovery workflows.
• Monitor AI, copyright and privacy developments for leadership.
