Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Sr. Staff Applied Researcher to lead the development of AI foundation models and scalable ML solutions for banking applications in McLean, VA.

You will partner with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to translate research into production-ready systems. The role requires strong research leadership, experience with large-scale models, and a track record in publishing or impactful industry projects.

Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics or related fields plus 6 years of experience in Applied Research; or MS plus 8 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, ML engineers and product managers to deliver AI-powered products.
• Build AI foundation models from design through training, evaluation, validation and implementation.
• Define and evolve Capital One's long-term research agenda and guide foundational investments in AI innovation.
