Capital One is seeking an Applied Researcher 5 to advance AI foundations and production-ready models in McLean, VA. Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered customer experiences and scalable infrastructure.

You will lead research that translates cutting-edge AI into real-world banking applications, driving impact across product teams while exploring open-source tools and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS in related field with required experience in Applied Research.
• Experience building large DL models and AI foundation models.
• Strong publication record preferred.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, ML engineers and product managers to deliver AI-powered products.
• Leverage PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning to extract insights from large data.
• Build AI foundation models through all stages from design to deployment.
• Translate state-of-the-art AI developments into production-ready customer experiences.
• Communicate complex research in business terms to stakeholders.
• Lead research threads bridging prototype models and ML engineering.
