Job summary

Groundswell Corporation is seeking an experienced AI Engineer to turn ambiguous business problems into practical AI solutions in a client-facing role. You will oversee the full lifecycle from discovery to production, balancing innovation with reliability, governance, and measurable outcomes.

The role requires strong programming skills, LLM experience, and the ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders and executives. A U.S. citizenship and potential security clearance are required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years building and shipping production software.
• Hands-on experience building applications that integrate large language models (LLMs).
• Experience evaluating AI system quality with test sets and metrics.
• Strong programming in Python, TypeScript, or SQL with API integrations.
• Ability to lead requirements conversations with non-technical stakeholders.
• Judgment on accuracy, cost, latency, and complexity; can explain tradeoffs.
• Excellent written communication; produces client-facing docs.
• Ability to work with minimal direction in ambiguous situations.
• Track record of mentoring other engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery with business and technical stakeholders to understand workflow and success criteria.
• Define measurable success criteria before building; establish acceptance conditions and failure conditions.
• Recommend against AI when a simpler solution suffices; identify better alternatives.
• Select AI pattern (extraction, classification, summarization, retrieval, or agentic) suitable for the problem.
• Make architecture decisions on where workloads run, considering QoS, cost, latency, and security.
• Build complete capabilities including prompts, retrievals, API integration, data handling, error states, UI.
• Develop evaluation sets and measure results to drive iteration.
• Identify when a capability is ready for deployment and governance requirements.
• Operationalize capabilities with governance, logging, and traceability.
• Produce documentation detailing solution, limitations, validation, and failure modes.
• Monitor quality, cost, latency, and drift post-launch; optimize continuously.
• Set direction for clients and shape the roadmap with working proofs.
• Mentor engineers to raise the team's capability and judgment.
• Contribute reusable patterns to reduce project startup effort.
• Move between delivery, internal product work, and POC development as needed.
