Job summary

Elsevier is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to design and deliver AI-powered features within cross-functional Innovation Squads. You will define technical direction, build and test tool use, retrieval pipelines, and agent workflows inside enterprise systems, while ensuring high code quality and scalable patterns.

You will collaborate with host-function stakeholders to align with real workflows, support handover, and contribute to capability-building after squad transitions.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering with hands-on AI production experience.
• Experience building LLM-powered apps (RAG, tool-augmented agents, or agentic workflows).
• Familiar with prompt engineering, context management, evaluation, and observability.

Responsibilities

• Build prototypes and ship AI-powered features to production standards within a defined technical approach.
• Implement tool use, retrieval pipelines, and agent workflows.
• Contribute to evaluation, observability, and guardrails for agentic systems.
• Integrate AI capabilities into existing enterprise workflows and systems.
• Maintain high code quality and documentation for reusable patterns.
• Flag risks and blockers early and work with stakeholders.
