Job summary

Elsevier is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to design and ship AI-powered features within an Innovation Squad, delivering production-grade solutions inside a business function. You will set technical direction and build tooling, retrieval pipelines, and agent workflows, integrating AI capabilities into enterprise systems while upholding code quality and observability.

You will collaborate with host-function stakeholders, push for validated outcomes, and contribute to patterns and reusable starter

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience with hands-on production AI work (RAG, tool-augmented agents, or agentic workflows).
• Ability to work autonomously within defined problems and deliver in short cycles with validated outcomes.
• Experience building LLM-powered applications and integrating AI into enterprise systems.
• Knowledge of memory, tools, and retrieval for multi-step agent tasks.

Responsibilities

• Build prototypes and ship agentic AI solutions to production standards.
• Implement tool use, retrieval pipelines, and agent workflows.
• Contribute to evaluation, observability, and guardrails for agentic systems.
• Integrate AI capabilities into existing enterprise workflows and systems.
• Maintain code quality and documentation for reuse across functions.
• Flag technical risks early and collaborate with stakeholders to fit real workflows.
• Collaborate with peers to finalize requirements and fix moderately complex bugs.
• Create patterns, reference implementations, and starter kits for reuse.
• Capture outcome data against baselines and measure impact.
• Support handover and capability-building in host functions.
