Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineer to design, build, and scale AI systems within the IFX team. You will partner with engineers, researchers and product managers to deliver AI-powered products across the customer journey.

You will optimize performance, latency, and cost, contribute to the long-term AI roadmap, and mentor engineers. This role involves working within a regulated banking environment and ensuring responsible AI practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, AI, electrical/computer engineering or related field with several years of AI/ML development experience.
• Experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java (≥4–6 years).
• Experience leading AI systems with trade-offs around cost, latency, throughput, and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products that change how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training, LLM inference, agents, and multi-model workflows.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, and PyTorch.
• Invent and optimize foundation model techniques to improve performance, cost, latency, and throughput in production.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One.
• Design and optimize multi-model orchestration pipelines integrating LLMs, vector search, and domain-specific models.
