Job summary

New York Life seeks a Principal AI Engineer to lead design, build, and deliver enterprise AI solutions across machine learning, Generative AI, and agentic AI—from opportunity assessment to deployment and monitoring.

You will mentor engineers, define AI engineering standards, and partner with business teams to measure value while delivering scalable, secure, and responsible AI on our enterprise platform; travel is limited.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, AI, or related quantitative field.
• Eight+ years delivering ML/AI solutions with technical leadership.
• Expertise in production AI applications spanning ML, Generative AI, and agentic AI architectures.
• Proficient Python, SQL, and JavaScript/TypeScript; experience with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Deep hands-on with LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, and knowledge graphs.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of AI and Generative AI solutions with cross-functional teams.
• Design, develop, deploy, and operate production AI apps using the enterprise platform.
• Architect agentic AI systems and multi-agent orchestration for complex problems.
• Evaluate AI tech across stacks; ensure scalable, secure, maintainable solutions.
• Establish engineering practices: testing, observability, safety, governance.
• Prototype AI-enabled experiences to validate concepts and accelerate adoption.
