Job summary

Rivian is hiring a Sr. AI Engineer for its Product Development AI and Data Science team in Tustin, CA. Onsite role focusing on agentic AI capabilities, AI-ready data foundations, and evaluating automation for engineering workflows in software-defined hardware.

You will build ETL pipelines, knowledge graphs, and vector databases to support AI apps, while validating trials, ensuring safety, reliability, and scalable engineering processes for vehicle systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., CS, ECE, ME, physics, math).
• Ideally 4 to 6+ years of experience building production data pipelines and AI/ML solutions, with LLM-based experience preferred.
• Experience in repository context engineering, AI-native IDEs/terminals, agentic loop optimization, and AI coding quality with debt mitigation.
• Hands-on knowledge of LLM orchestration and concepts including RAG, agentic frameworks, context engineering, grounding, evaluation, cost/latency optimization.
• Deep understanding of AI failure modes vs traditional software, including statistical validation design and tolerance thresholds.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, probabilistic validation, deployment, and end-to-end production ownership.

Responsibilities

• Partner with senior technical staff to design and orchestrate agentic AI workflows and LLM-powered systems that automate complex engineering activities.
• Build, validate, and maintain ETL pipelines and data structures (knowledge graphs, vector databases) to support AI apps across engineering systems.
• Run rapid technical trials to move concepts to prototypes and determine methods that reduce engineering labor.
• Convert prototypes into robust, scalable enterprise systems.
• Define and monitor quantitative performance requirements (accuracy, grounding, latency, cost) for safety and reliability.
• Collaborate across teams to identify manual workflows and implement AI-driven automations to boost efficiency.
