Job summary

Rivian Autonomy is building an Applied General AI team to empower engineers with a production-grade agent platform. We seek a Staff Software Engineer to own and evolve the agent platform across code generation, review, debugging, CI triage, and knowledge retrieval across cloud, data, simulation, and vehicle software ecosystems.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent demonstrated impact across backend or distributed systems.
• Staff-level technical leadership: define strategy, solve problems across teams, drive initiatives.
• Hands-on experience building and operating LLM applications and agent systems beyond prototypes.
• Rigorous evaluation of ML/LLM/nondeterministic systems with metrics or experiments.
• Understanding of cost, latency, quality, and reliability tradeoffs in agent-system design.
• Strong programming skills in Python and at least one other language (Go, Rust, C++, or TypeScript).
• Strong communication and developer empathy, with a track record of platform/tool adoption.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build the core runtime for autonomous agents, including orchestration, isolation, tool/frameworks, and audit trails.
• Define safe execution models with workspace isolation, task-scoped credentials, and human-in-the-loop gates.
• Deliver capabilities across the engineering lifecycle: code generation, debugging, CI attribution, documentation, knowledge retrieval, and triage.
• Own platform reliability and lifecycle of long-running agent work, including recovery and resource controls.
