Job summary

Slang AI is seeking an experienced Senior Conversation Designer to build and iterate on our generative AI voice system. The role blends design and building to craft conversational experiences across voice and chat, with emphasis on prompts, guardrails, and production evaluation.

You will dive into transcripts and metrics to reduce friction, partner with engineers on prompts, and ensure a consistent voice and persona while supporting product strategy. This role is based in NYC HQ with some travel.

Qualifications

• 7+ years designing conversational interfaces (voice assistants, IVR, voice AI).
• Expertise with traditional NLU and generative AI/LLM tech.
• Experience contributing to design standards and established processes.
• Experience evaluating genAI agents and metrics-driven design.
• Proven ability to design/build technically complex flows with multiple branches.
• Experience with parameter extraction, validation logic, and dynamic response generation.
• Strong understanding of variables, loops, and conditionals in programming.
• APIs integration for external systems in conversation flows.
• Proficiency with conversation design tools and prototyping platforms.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with natural language focus.
• Active, hands-on use of AI tools in daily workflow.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end conversational flows for voice and chat with condition logic, parameter handling, and tool calls.
• Build robust error handling and fallback mechanisms for conversation recovery.
• Create and test dialog maintaining a consistent voice, tone, and personality.
• Partner with engineers to define prompts and guardrails for LLM integration.
• Evaluate LLM performance in production and iterate.
• Analyze transcripts, audio, and metrics to identify friction and drive design improvements.
• Define and document conversation design standards, best practices, and reusable patterns.
