Job summary

HellaGoodAudio in the United States seeks a senior gameplay designer to own core combat design for AAA TPP shooters. You will prototype, pitch, and implement gameplay systems, characters, and encounters using Unreal Engine 5, guiding cross-disciplinary teams from concept through delivery.

You will lead prototype playtests, translate design visions into actionable briefs, mentor teammates, and stay ahead of trends in action games, balancing pacing, arena layouts, and player feedback.

Qualifications

• 6+ years producing console/PC games, AAA shooters or combat systems.
• Shipped AAA title in a senior role with feature history.
• Excellent knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 and editor workflows.
• Strong verbal and written English communication.
• Able to pitch, prototype, and implement game systems end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Own core combat design from concept to delivery with prototyping and scripting.
• Pitch ideas, design encounters, characters, and pacing for arena layouts.
• Run playtests with developers to iterate prototypes and balance gameplay.
• Collaborate across disciplines to keep design vision aligned with teams.
• Mentor juniors and contribute to recruitment efforts when needed.
