Job summary

The Bioinformatics Shared Resource at Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking an AI Research Scientist to strengthen cancer AI capabilities and accelerate AI use across research.

You will work at the intersection of AI, bioinformatics, and software engineering to develop and deploy ML, DL, LLMs, and biomedical foundation models for cancer-focused applications across genomics, single-cell, spatial biology, and digital pathology.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computer science, biomedical informatics, artificial intelligence, data science, or closely related field.
• At least 2 years of machine learning and deep learning experience.
• At least 2 years of experience with large language models, evaluation, or deployment.
• Strong Python programming skills and ML framework experience (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX).
• Experience deploying models on HPC clusters and/or cloud environments.
• Experience with backend services, APIs, databases, containers, and full-stack development.
• Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary research team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; commitment to inclusive collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and deploy ML/DL approaches for cancer genomics, single-cell, spatial omics, imaging, and other data.
• Fine-tune and deploy LLMs and biomedical foundation models for cancer research applications.
• Develop AI agents and workflow automation to support bioinformatics analyses.
• Build full-stack applications integrating AI models, workflows, databases, and visualization tools.
• Deploy AI models on HPC clusters and cloud platforms and design scalable pipelines.
• Collaborate with Massey investigators on study design, data interpretation, and AI applications.
• Contribute to manuscripts, grant proposals, and software dissemination.
• Provide training and guidance to BISR staff and researchers on AI-enabled tools.
