Job summary

Quicken is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to spearhead backend services powering generative AI across the product family. You will design and implement cloud-based AI service infrastructure, focusing on secure, scalable, and observable systems using Kotlin/Java and AWS.

You will mentor engineers, build robust APIs, and drive multi-step workflows with tool calling and MCP services while ensuring privacy and performance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including building customer-facing SaaS/PaaS products.
• 5+ years of Java or Kotlin with Spring Framework and AWS.
• 3+ years in microservice architecture using REST/JSON.
• Experience with reactive programming on the JVM.
• Hands-on experience with LLM-backed product features and streaming patterns.
• Familiarity with memory/persistence systems, prompt orchestration, and tool calling.
• Strong privacy, security, and data-handling awareness.
• Hibernate/JPA exposure and SQL proficiency.
• Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, scalable backend/server code in Kotlin/Java for AI-powered Quicken Cloud Services.
• Design APIs for safe integration of AI functionality across web, mobile, and desktop apps.
• Build tool-calling and MCP services supporting secured multi-step workflows.
• Lead with engineering judgment to ensure secure, observable, production-grade systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate AI concepts into robust backend infrastructure.
• Mentor junior engineers and review AI-generated code for correctness and security.
