Target is hiring a Senior Engineer for the Gift Card Platform in Brooklyn Park, MN. You will design and build scalable, secure back-end services using Kotlin/Java and Micronaut, integrating AI-powered capabilities across APIs, data processing, and guest-facing components.

You will lead architecture discussions, drive best practices, and collaborate across teams to deliver high-availability, observability, and cost-effective solutions in a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• 4 year degree or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Strong domain knowledge of Target’s technology capabilities and competitors.
• Experience with Kotlin/Java backend and Micronaut/Spring Boot.
• Experience with distributed systems, REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Experience with data processing and AI tooling.
• Proficiency in Python for AI tooling.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and lifecycle management of Gift Card Platform services.
• Build scalable backend services with REST/GraphQL APIs.
• Design distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Develop AI-powered capabilities using domain AI agents and RAG.
• Ensure security, observability, and reliability of production systems.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices.
