Job summary

Avalara, the AI-first tax technology leader, is seeking an AI Automation Engineer to shape scalable automation across the organization. This remote role emphasizes hands-on engineering, platform ownership, and technical leadership to accelerate transformation using n8n as the core orchestrator.

You will partner with teams to embed intelligent workflows, AI agents, and data-driven decisioning, while setting standards for secure, reliable automation and driving measurable business impact across

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years in enterprise automation, workflow engineering, integration, or platform architecture.
• Hands-on with n8n or Boomi for enterprise automation and AI-enabled workflows.
• Experience with API-first and event-driven architectures; REST APIs and webhooks.
• Experience implementing CI/CD, governance, observability, and reliability across large platforms.
• Cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP) including AI services and LLM integrations.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise AI automation strategy with n8n as core orchestration platform.
• Design scalable, secure automation solutions reducing manual work and boosting efficiency.
• Develop AI-enabled workflows, intelligent agents, and decisioning frameworks across functions.
• Architect API-first and event-driven integrations across systems and AI services.
• Establish standards for development, deployment, monitoring, reliability, and governance.
• Define CI/CD processes, environments, and release practices to improve quality and speed.
• Create reusable automation frameworks, templates, and AI agent accelerators.
• Implement observability, monitoring, and performance measurement for traditional and AI workflows.
• Lead design reviews, workflow assessments, and post-incident reviews for reliability.
• Mentor engineers and partners on AI automation, responsible AI, and workflow engineering.
