Job summary

Robots & Pencils is seeking a Staff AI Builder to lead the design and delivery of AI/ML systems, owning end-to-end architecture and technical leadership on a cross-functional team.

You'll define AI architecture, lead model development, and solve integration challenges with emphasis on reliability, security, and scalability as you ship production-ready AI in real workflows. This role centers on hands-on engineering, mentorship, and shaping how AI scales across the company.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including GenAI/LLM-powered systems in production.

Responsibilities

• Design and build agentic workflows across single- and multi-agent architectures.
• Build and maintain RAG pipelines: chunking, embeddings, vector search, re-ranking, and freshness handling.
• Integrate with AWS Bedrock and Agent Core, including MCP-based tool design for proper routing.
• Write and iterate on production system prompts with structured constraints.
• Build eval and observability into every agent you ship, including datasets and tracing.
• Design for LLM failure with retries, backoffs, circuit breakers, and user-facing fallbacks.
